The Morning Run

Brad, the businessman

It is big. It is fast. It is exciting. And it is sometimes dangerous. It is New York, the biggest city in America.

Brad worked for a large bank in the centre of New York. Every day he went up and down lifts, took taxis and underground trains. He almost never walked anywhere.

He started to get fat, and decided to do something about it. He decided to go running every day. There was a large park near the flat where he and his wife life --Central Park. He would run there every morning before going to work.

He bought running shoes and sports clothes. Then he began to get up early in the morning to run in the park. He enjoyed doing it. The park was quiet at that time of day. He could hear the birds singing, and the air was still fresh. Soon he started to lose weight.

Every morning he took three dollars with him. It was for a cup of coffee and a large doughnut. He had the coffee and the doughnut at the far end of the park. There was a stall there called Ed's.

One morning Brad was running through the park, as usual. He was about half-way to Ed's. Now and then he passed other runners, whom he greeted. He saw the same faces every day. Many of the runners worked in banks or big offices, just like Brad.
