Worrying about Amy
No matter how you look at it, it started with Kris. What makes someone go bad suddenly? Kris was a good friend for years. He's older than me but I've known him since I was a baby. Other people were scared of him but I never was. Sometimes he got angry and got into some fights but that's not unusual. It made no difference to me. He was always a good friend.
Then things began to go wrong. Kris changed. Suddenly he stopped going to school. He said he had to work. No-one understood that. His father was a rich man, so Kris didn't have to work. Only poor families send their children out to work. And he wouldn't say what kind of work. People at school said he had bad friends. I didn't believe them. But it is certainly true that he changed.
For one thing, he would not leave Amy alone. They had always been good friends but suddenly he started to 'look after' his younger sister. He wanted to know where she went, who she talked to, everything she did. When he could not ask her, he asked her friends. We all got tired of his questions. 'Where's Amy? Who is she with?' Amy is a really nice girl, so what did he have to worry about? But she's very beautiful, that's the truth, and I think maybe he got worried for her because of that.
The other thing was Eddy. Kris hated him. I'm not sure why. He never really told me. He just said that Eddy's father had stolen money from his family. He said that he wanted to make Eddy pay.
