No good at business
Now that Jung Sik was married, Jung Lo decided to lend his brother some money. The money was to help him become a doctor in the country. As a country doctor, he would make enough money to live comfortably with his wife.
Mrs Park did not like her husband's idea.
'You'll never see your money again,' she said to him.
'Perhaps,' he answered, 'but he's my brother. I must help him.'
'Do what you think best,' she said. 'But don't expect to see your money again,' she added. 'Your brother is no good at business. He will never be able to give you back your money.'
Jung Lo did not listen to his wife. He wanted to help his brother. Mrs Park could not stop her husband. She just hoped that Jung Sik and his wife would go away when they got the money. She was happy to say 'good-bye' to them both.
For many years Mrs Park only saw Jung Sik and his wife once. That was when old Mr Park, Jung Lo's father, died. When they came they both looked well. It was clear that they loved living in the country. Both looked well and happy. But it seemed as if time had stopped for them. They were wearing the same clothes they had worn so many years ago. Mrs Park felt ashamed of Mae Soo. Her clothes were so old.
