Look behind you!

Mousedeer thought quickly. Tiger opened his mouth to eat him. Mousedeer shouted out loudly. 'Look, look, Tiger! There's something bigger and better for you.'

Tiger closed his mouth, and looked around. 'Where?' he asked. 'I can't see anything.'

'There, there, behind you. Quickly! Quickly!' said Mousedeer.

Tiger turned round to look behind him. Mousedeer jumped between two big stones. He was safe, because Tiger was big. Tiger couldn't get between the two stones. But Mousedeer couldn't come out.

'Oh dear, it's gone,' said Mousedeer. 'That's sad because it was a nice, big animal.'

'What animal was it?' asked Tiger, angrily.

'It was a man. Men are big and very good to eat. I know where there are more men. Let me come out and I'll show you where more men live.'

Tiger thought about this for quite a long time. He was big and strong but he was not very clever. Thinking was hard work for him.

Tiger knew a little about men. He knew they were big. He knew they did not have sharp teeth. But he did not know what they looked like. Tiger did not go near their villages. At last he spoke to Mousedeer again.

'Come out of there. I want to ea . . . . Oh, I mean I want to hear you better.'
