Vocabulary Monitoring Displays Table 1
CADET Table 1 display
The CADET Table 1 display lists alphabetically all word forms in one file that are not in a second file. If the first file is a text, and the second file is a syllabus list, then any forms that are in the text but not in the syllabus will be listed.
To the right of each word form is a number in square brackets. This shows how many times the word form occurs in the text.
Word forms are grouped in word families. This helps the user to count the number of problematic words (rather than word-forms) that occur in the text.
Further to the right of each listed word form is a breakdown of occurrences in the text, chapter by chapter. The purpose of this is to give a picture of balance, range, linguistic reinforcement, etc., rather than to help the user find occurrences of the word form in the text.
Table 1 display -- detail
From this small section of a Table 1 display you can see, for example, that the form 'represent' appears with three other inflected or derivative variants. Taken together, the 'represent' family occurs nine times in this text.
The word-form 'respect' occurs eleven times in this text, three times in unit 1, twice in unit 3, twice in unit 4, four times in unit 7. The related form 'respected' also occurs eight times throughout the text. Where vocabulary development is the reason for producing the text, this word-group, occuring 19 times over 6 chapters would be a good candidate for retention, if the retention of some non-syllabus items is permitted.
