CADET: usage monitoring basics




Luxfield Editing makes use of a specially developed software package called CADET. This provides help with three main editing tasks - vocabulary monitoring, usage monitoring (this section), and readability --text complexity-- checking.


Usage monitoring:
The words in a text might all be words permitted in the series syllabus list, but how can we be sure that they are being used in the right way?

There seems, as yet, to be no simple, computer-based solution to that problem. However, there are ways of making the task of usage monitoring easier.

One is to display all the occurrences of any word form in the text in a group, with each instance being set in its context. Such displays are known as KWIC (key word in context) displays. CADET offers one version of this facility.



CADET offers, on screen or hard-copy, 'key-word in context' (KWIC) displays of any word-forms occurring in any text.
